User Management

User vs. Member

A Member is your website's visitor who can read the entire articles, receive your newsletter, rate articles or post comments (if you have defined in Preferences section that someone must be registered member to post comment).

A User (sometimes referred to as staff) is a member with privileges to post articles and who can be categorized into four different groups with different levels of access.

To access your user management panel select Users from the main navigation menu and new page containing quick links/search pane on the left and user management panel on the right will load.

Users menu

Let's take a closer look at the left-hand side user menu.

Quick link user menu

Quick link menu tab contains + Add new user link that will instantly take you to the new user creation form.

Below you may find general and individual user classification according to the affiliation to specific user groups depending on privileges.

Quick link

  • All → Click here if you want to see all users.
  • Staff → By selecting this option you will limit your user search to a writer, trusted writer, editor and admin user group.
  • Members → This filter will display in only the users that have member and premium member privileges.

Let's see now default user groups and their default privileges:

Privileges for default groups can be changed and also new usergroups can be created as explained in Usergroup section of the User Manual

  • Writer → He is able to add articles in categories that are delegated to him, however the articles will have pending status by default.
  • Editor → He is able to add articles to the website and to approve other people's articles. The editor can be delegated to specific categories only, or website-wide.
  • Admin → He has a complete control over the system.
  • Trusted Writer → He is able to add articles in delegated categories, without mandatory approval from editor.
  • Member → He can read full articles free of charge.
  • Premium member → You may have some sections, articles or any service that you offer to your members in exchange for some membership fee. In that case, only the premium members will be able to access these services.

Only administrator can create user accounts and user groups and grant privileges to them.

Search

Second tab in your left hand side navigation menu is reserved for the search within your users and users groups. Just like in articles or comments sections, you may limit your search query by entering one or more search parameters in a time.

Search users

  • By name → In this field enter a name or part of the user name that you want to find.
  • Search status → Select between options All, Active or Inactive.
  • Usergroup → Limit your search to specific user groups. To select more than one option hold down the Ctrl key while selecting desired options.

When finished with defining your search parameters click on the search now button below and your results will appear on your right side.

If you often do your search using specific criteria, you may create permanent search filter for that query. All you have to do is to name your search filter and then pres save filter button. Your search filter will appear immediately at Search filter list on the Quick links menu.

How does you visitor become registered member?

At the home page on the right-hand side, you may see the log-in form, similar to the one shown in the picture.

Users login

If you have previously registered, you will be prompted to enter your login details. If you check Remember Me box, you will not have to enter your username and password again, whenever you visit the site.

Clicking on New member? Register now will load the form.

Users register

To become a member, your visitor has to fill out the registration form. It is necessary to enter all required information including valid email address. When he/she submits this form a notification if the registration is incomplete or confirmation message and information that confirmation email is being sent will appear at the top of the page.

A valid email address is required because he/she will receive a confirmation email to confirm that he/she requested access to your website. To confirm subscription, your visitor will have to click on link that will be sent to the email inserted during registration. After subscription confirmation, your visitor becomes a member with full access to your content.

Vivvo provides two membership levels by default: basic and premium. You can however crate unlimited number of membership levels using Add new usergroup tool. To set/edit or manipulate access control for each respective user group (role) click on the edit icon next to a group name.

This way you will control access levels to your site, which will let you have various membership levels, such as paid/free, basic/silver/gold or any other paradigm.

If a member forgets a password he/she may click a Forgot password? link and provide valid username and/or email address.

Forgot password

When he/she clicks Submit button a message that confirms the action will display and an email with instructions on resetting password should be received shortly.
