Modules

Modules extend the capabilities of Vivvo giving the software new functionality. A Module is a piece of content that can be displayed anywhere that your template allows.

Modules tab

In this section you will be offered to define general modules options.

  • Friendly URL → This feature allows you to create search engine friendly URLs for your categories, pages and articles. You need to have mod_rewrite installed and enabled on your server.

Friendly URL

  • Choose URL format → choose most appropriate format of your URLs for individual articles and other pages.

URL format

There are pathinfo URLs for servers without mod_rewrite that are very similar to Friendly URLs. The only difference is they have /index.php in the URL so they look like, for example http://www.example.com/index.php/category/subcategory/<article-id>

  • Enable archive view → The archive viewer allows content to be viewed by selecting the day. It also provides a monthly calendar view that users can use to navigate through content.

Enable archive view

What is Vivvo archive?

Archived articles are excluded from all standard SQL queries, for maximum performance. Since they are not searched in normal website search and article display activities they do not put heavy load on the database and site itself. Articles with status set to “Archive” are excluded from categories as well. They are accessible only via “Archive” link (http://www.example.com/archive URL).

When you archive your articles they stay online, they are searchable (there is a separate search for archived articles) and there is also an archive calendar so your visitors may read archived articles published on any particular date. To view the archive by date, select the date in the calendar. Clicking on a date in the monthly calendar view shows the content for that date. Users can navigate to different months using arrows beside the month's name in the calendar display. The current date will be highlighted in the calendar. You can also access your archived articles published on specific day via following url: http://www.example.com/archive/2008/9/25

What's most important is that the URL of an archived article doesn't change.

We are suggesting you to archive your old active articles to reduce database load but it depends on your server/hosting when articles should be moved to archive. In general you shouldn't be having more than 200,000 active articles.

  • Enable tags → Select if you want to enable Tags Module. You can find more info about Tags options and usage in the Manage articles section of the user manual.

Enable tags

  • Enable feed → Check if you want to allow your content to be shared via RSS.

Enable Vivvo comments

  • Enable plaintext → If you or your visitors need to have articles plain text formatted, turn this option on! The Plain text link will be visible at the front end of your web site, by default in footer section.

Enable plaintext

  • Enable email features → Use this feature to enable sending an article via e-mail, for reporting bad comments etc.

Enable email features

  • Show editing options on Front-end → Choose yes to enable editing categories/articles/comments from the front-end without having to go to Vivvo admin panel.

Show editing options

When this option is enabled you'll see a bar on the top of your viewed category or article page.

Editing options

On article pages you can change settings for category this article belongs to, this particular article and its comments. On category pages you'll be able to edit preferences for active category only.

Choose Edit category options and a pop-up window will appear with same settings you can set in Vivvo administration as explained here.

If you choose to Edit article options you'll be able to change settings for the article as you would if you were adding/editing article in administration panel.

Moderate comments opens a window with all comments posted to this article listed so you can edit or delete any of them.

You may anytime Dismiss this bar and it will be turned off (and set to No in preferences).

Image size settings

In this panel you will be offered to change predefined article image sizes. Define maximum image width and height, the image uploaded will be automatically resized proportionally to these sizes.

There are two types of article images - full article image and article summary image.

Image size settings

You may define up to three different sizes of these images (large, medium and small).

Remember to optimize your images before you upload them to your web site. Vivvo resizing component will only scale down your image to fit into predefined values, so when the image is resized on your web page the file size is not reduced.
