WordPress Importer

Description

WordPress importer is a tool for importing content from your WordPress blog to Vivvo CMS. It can import:

  • Categories - WordPress importer creates categories if they do not exist in Vivvo system. If a category exists, plug-in will synchronize existing and imported data - it will add articles to existing categories. If an article from WordPress is added to more than one category, importer will assign only one category to this article
  • Tags - All tags that do not already exist in Vivvo CMS will be imported, and those that already exist will be synchronized.
  • Articles, Pages and Comments - All articles with comments are imported. WordPress article pages are being imported as Vivvo static pages.
  • Users - The script will import users (with preserved passwords) from WordPress to Vivvo while skipping users whose username or email address exist in Vivvo.

All articles, comments and pages will be imported no matter if they already exist in Vivvo database.

Actions

Export users

In case you do not need to import WordPress users, you may proceed straight to back-up creation process.

If you'd like to import WordPress users to Vivvo you must install WordPress Export Users plug-in for WordPress first. The plug-in is included in the WordPress importer package in wp_export_users directory.

To install WP Export Users plug-in follow these steps:

  1. Copy wp_export_users.php from /wp_export_users directory to your WordPress plug-in directory ({WP_DIR}/wp-content/plugins/)
  2. Log-in to WordPress administration panel, go to Plug-ins section and activate WP Export Users plug-in.

Create a back-up

Now you can create a backup file of your WordPress data. You should log-in to WordPress administration panel, go to Tools → Export section and click on Download Export File button. The backup should be uploaded then to VIVVO_ROOT/files/wp_importer folder (you need to set permissions for this folder to CHMOD 777 prior to importing actual backup file). You may upload via FTP or use Upload file feature in Vivvo Administration → Plug-ins → Wordpress importer.

Check if the backup file is converted to UTF-8 encoding.

Import

Go to the plug-in's page and find a backup listed on the right-hand side of the screen. To import previously created and uploaded backup, click on the Import icon next to its name.

Import WordPress backup

A pop-up notice will appear and you need to confirm this in order to proceed:

“This action will restore WordPress backup and will add new data to existing Vivvo database. In case you repeat action your data will be duplicated. Are you sure you want to continue?”

If confirmed, the process will execute and you'll be able to see the progress of the import on the right-hand side of the screen.

Make sure not to DELETE WordPress importer since missing files may result in log-in failures.
