Asset Manager

Description

Asset Manager is fast and easy digital file and asset manager (DAM) for uploading and controlling images, videos and other files without the hassle of ftp. Use this tool as a file manager to store, organize and use files throughout entire website using only your favorite web browser.

With the Asset Manager you can easily upload new files and images, and create new folders to stay organized. Asset manager provides many features to make handling files easier: arrange files in folders, upload files, create/delete folders, search for files etc.

Administrators can limit user privileges so that only certain groups are allowed to upload and manage files.

How to Install?

You need to access the Plug-ins section. Click on the Plug-ins link which is located in Main menu at the top of your administrator panel.

A list of all plug-ins currently registered to the system is displayed on the right hand side of the screen on Downloaded plug-ins tab.

To install Asset Manager plug-in you need to click on the install icon on the right side of the plug-ins name.

After you run the installation, you will be informed that the plug-in was successfully installed.

How to Uninstall?

To uninstall Asset Manager plug-in you need to click on the uninstall icon on the right side of the plug-in name.

You will be informed that the plug-in was successfully uninstalled and you may return to the Plug-ins page by clicking the link: Click here to return to Plug-in home page.

Access

The path to the Asset Manager plug-in:

Click on the Plug-ins link (which is located in Main menu at the top of your administrator panel).

Choose Asset Manager plug-in from the list of all installed plug-ins (on the left side of the screen).

User level

This plug-in can be accessed only by users belonging to groups that are allowed to manage Asset Manager plug-in.

Actions

When you access the plug-in page you'll navigate through folders and create new folders, search for files and upload them using three tabs on the left hand side of the screen. Files from chosen folder and search results will be listed on the right.

File management

File management panel loads a list of files from a chosen folder or, for example, search results.

File type icon is displayed in front of file name, then there is a selection checkbox, next to it the file name is displayed and its size is just below the name. On the right there are three icons for each file:

Preview file Choose preview icon and see preview thumbnail (for images), file details like name, size, location and date, change its name and change/add keywords/metadata.

Download file Click this icon to download the file to your harddrive.

Delete file Use this option when deleting a single file.

You can delete more articles at the same time. Select checkboxes (or use All for selecting all files on the page) for files that should be removed and choose Delete from Select action drop-down menu.

Do the same when moving file(s) from one folder to another - select checkbox(es) and choose appropriate folder from Select action drop-down.

Sorting and reordering files

Change the order of the file display list through sorting by filename, creation date, extension or size. You may choose how many files will be listed on one page by selecting value 10, 20, 30 or 50 from the dropdown list.

Use Rescan current folder to keep file list and all files details you see and manage up-to-date.

Navigation tab

Navigation tab serves to list existing folder and subfolder structure so you can easily browse for files belonging to a folder/subfolder. Click on any folder name and all files this folder contains will show up on the file management panel on the right hand side of the screen.

To add new folder or subfolder enter folder's name in Create new folder field and after click on Add button. When adding a subfolder you should open (click on) parent folder before creating.

Search tab

You can search for files by the following criteria:

  • File name → If you know name of the file you are looking for just enter it in this field. In case you don't know exact name make sure that Exact name field is unchecked.
  • Search in folder → Search for file(s) belonging to a folder with or without its subfolder(s) - depending on this you need to check or uncheck Include subfolders checkbox.
  • Extension → Select an option from Extension drop-down if you are searching only for jpg or flv, for example.
  • Tagged → Search by Keywords
  • Uploaded within → If you know approximately when the file you are looking for was uploaded check appropriate option from this menu.
  • Meta data → Search by Meta data

To upload file(s) from your harddrive you should follow the next steps:

  1. Choose destination folder from Upload destination drop-down list
  2. Click Upload file button
  3. Browse for location of the file(s) that you want to add, then select file(s) and click Open

That's all. While the file is uploading, the upload status is displayed, making it easy to see the how the upload progresses and estimate when it will be completed. You can anytime stop this process if you click on Cancel All Uploads link.
