You may also combine few of the criteria at the same time, and most important of all, you can save your search as a search filter so you will be able to easily repeat your search every time you log-in to your admin panel.

Once you have created your search filter, you may access it by selecting it from the comments Quick link menu tab.

How to create a search filter?

Let’s see an example!

You have noticed that one of your users, Maximus for example, frequently uses term “stupid” in his comments, causing you problems with your other authors. You cannot put this word on a banned list because it is not a bad word except when Maximus uses it to make comments about other authors.

What can you do?

You may, for example, set your quick filter on Maximus:

Search filter

  • in the name field enter the username (Maximus)
  • you may also define “stupid” in keywords box
  • in date criteria set 2 weeks ago option, for example. You may check and older box too.
  • in the search status select All (maybe some of your administrators have approved his comment in a meantime)

In the Filter name enter a name for your filter. We will use Maximus.

Click on the Save filter button and your filter is created.

You may easily access it every time when you log into your Administrative panel → Comments → Quick link

Search filter

You may delete a filter by clicking on Delete icon delete icon next to the filters name or pin/unpin Pin filter the filter to MyQuickNav toolbar for easier and faster access to search results with less clicks.

The same way you can create search filters for Articles and Users.

Preferences menu tab

In the comment Preferences tab you may define general comments options.

Comments preferences

  • Report inappropriate comment → If this option is turned on, you will be informed vie email when someone reports (clicks on Report comment icon next to the comment) a comment that considers inappropriate. You may check this comment and delete it and also warn this user or simply go to users/manage users and change users status to inactive if you think it is necessary.
  • Flood Protection → You may define the shortest interval that has to pass between posting two or more comments by the same user.
  • CAPTCHA → It is used for stopping automated comment posting. User has to enter the image code to confirm that he want to post a comment on your web site.

Comment captcha

  • Bad words → You can define bad words that you do not want to be posted by your users. In the text box, enter inappropriate words, separated by comma. Every comment containing these words, any of them, will be modified and those words will be replaced with * symbols.
  • Ban IP address → If you have allowed unmoderated comments to be posted and you have noticed that someone is posting inappropriate comments from the same IP address you may simply put that IP address in the banned IP address list and all actions for this IP will be blocked.
